My name is Sarah Calhoun and I am a board-certified family physician with over 15 years of experience caring for patients across all stages of life. I completed both my medical degree and residency training at the University of Missouri, and Columbia has been home ever since.
I started Curated Medicine because I believe you deserve a physician who truly knows you. Not one constrained by insurance-driven time limits and checkbox medicine, but one who can sit with you, listen, and provide care genuinely tailored to your life and your health.
My approach is straightforward: unhurried visits, direct access, and a relationship built on trust. Your health deserves that kind of attention.
Finding a doctor who actually listens and who truly understands what it is like to navigate a complex, often invisible health journey can be difficult. My clinical approach is shaped not only by my academic medical background, but also by my personal experience living with POTS. I know firsthand what it is like to search for answers, and I designed my practice to be a safe, unhurried space where you are heard, validated, and partners in your own care.
Because I believe in treating the whole person, my practice is rooted in providing high-quality, comprehensive family medicine virtually via telehealth. I manage the full spectrum of essential primary care, from everyday health needs to chronic conditions.
While I am dedicated to the full spectrum of family medicine, my personal journey and academic background have driven me to develop an interest in several areas:
I take an individualized, evidence-based approach to each patient's overall health picture, rather than treating problems in isolation. Holding a Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at eCornell, I blend nutritional science and lifestyle modifications seamlessly with conventional medicine to optimize your long-term wellness.
My deep clinical interest in dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is both professional and deeply personal, as I navigate POTS myself. Because these complex conditions are frequently misunderstood and require highly comprehensive care, I maintain a small practice size. This ensures I have the time required to listen to your entire story, validate your experience, and piece together complex medical puzzles.
I provide evidence-based evaluation and management of perimenopause and menopause, including individualized hormone therapy when appropriate. As an active member of The Menopause Society and a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), I closely engage with the field to ensure my patients receive the most current standard of care.
I've called Columbia home since 2002, long enough to have built a life here that I genuinely love. My husband Scott arrived a year before I did, which we agree makes him the true local. We have two kids, and our backyard koi pond (a project we started during COVID) has become one of my favorite places to decompress. I will admit the local blue herons feel the same way about it, which has become an ongoing negotiation.
I started Curated Medicine after years of practicing family medicine right here in our community. Over time, I realized I wanted to explore a model of care that allows for a more deliberate, personal approach. By stepping outside the constraints of traditional insurance-based care, I'm able to offer a different experience—one where your appointments are unhurried, we can stay connected through your patient portal between visits, and building a meaningful, long-term relationship with you is the core focus.
That's what Curated Medicine is built to be.
